The following words have most often appeared on SAT’s. The acronym, SAT, has had several meanings over the years: From 1901 to ≈ 1941, it meant Scholastic Achievement Test. From 1941 to ≈ 1990, it was called the Scholastic Aptitude Test. From 1990 to ≈ 1994, it was hailed the Scholastic Assessment Test. Now, it can be defined as either of the aforementioned. Despite the evolving etymology of this all-too-common acronym, its purpose remains lucid indeed: It tests college-level readiness and general academic preparedness. Research has repeatedly demonstrated that a high vocabulary is the most accurate indicator of potential academic success.
